Spartanburg
is a great Southern city with a
rich historic past, located in the
northwest corner of S.C. with over
860,000 in the statistical area.
We're known as an international
textile leader and as the Fresh
Peach Capital of the World. More
recently we've become a center for
foreign investment and culture, as
well as automotive resources and
trade. The national media has
dubbed Spartanburg "Euroville,
USA". Spartanburg is a city of
many surprises: a great city,
which is emerging from a sleepy
Southern agricultural and
industrial town. However, the most
important discovery you’ll find in
Spartanburg is its people.
THE
CITY OF SUCCESS
Development and business opportunities
exist throughout the city. Sites range
from large malls on the east and west of
Spartanburg to extensive redevelopment
projects in the central business
district. In downtown, hundreds of
millions in new development or
restoration of old buildings has been
completed or is in process. Five new
corporate headquarters are located in
the central business district. There is
a real restructuring of the economy and
employee base of downtown. The parks and
green spaces provide a framework of
beauty and are adding to a dynamic new
environment that has emerged in Downtown
Spartanburg.
Within
and adjacent to the central city are six
institutions of higher education. Wofford
College, Converse College, The University of
South Carolina Upstate, Spartanburg Methodist
College, Spartanburg Community College and
Sherman College of Chiropractic have a
combined enrollment of well over 10,000
students.
Spartanburg is an active community. The
multitude of arts, sports, and international
festivals include thousands of participants.
Broadway road shows stop regularly at
Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, as well as
an array of popular musicians and
entertainers. Of course, Spartanburg is home
to an abundance of theatres, restaurants,
golf and tennis facilities, parks and lakes.
The Carolina Panthers stadium is just a short
drive to Charlotte, NC and Spartanburg is the
summer training home of the Panthers. The
arts community is recognized as one of the
largest and most active in the state. A new
38 million dollar Cultural Arts Center will
be completed in 2007.
The City of
Spartanburg boasts one of the highest
percentages of families with effective buying
income of $50,000 or more in a six county
area. The city is home to several nationally
and internationally known business magnates
such as Roger Milliken.

Spartanburg's business community is unique.
Companies such as Monsanto Electronics,
National Lock Hardware, Calvin Klein Jeans,
Westinghouse Nuclear Services, R. R.
Donnelley, Michelin Tire Corporation, Adidas
and BMW represent the new diversity. There
are more than 500 manufacturing firms located
here and the county has over 40 companies
listed in the Fortune 500 report. More than
1,400 brand new jobs at the newly located
Echostar will expand the local economy
considerably.
Spartanburg
has the largest per capita
concentration of foreign-owned
business in the United States with
more than 80 international firms
representing 15 countries and
employing over 7,000 people. BMW
Manufacturing along with satellite
industries has added thousands of
new jobs. International firms have
invested over $1.5 billion in our
community, placing Spartanburg
first in the nation in this
category.
Located in
the northwest corner of South
Carolina, Spartanburg is the
center of the Piedmont with over
860,000 people within its five
county metropolitan statistical
area. The area population is
growing at a rate faster than both
the state of South Carolina and
the population of the U. S. as a
whole. One of the reasons may be
our climate and geographic
location. Spartanburg has four
distinct seasons, although winters
are normally mild. We are located
within easy driving distance to
the Blue Ridge Mountains, historic
Charleston, South Carolina’s
famous coastal resorts, and cities
such as Atlanta, and Charlotte.
The most important discovery
you'll find in Spartanburg is its
people. You'll find true southern
hospitality, a community dedicated
to spiritual, cultural,
educational and economic growth;
people who care and people that
you'll be glad to call friends and
neighbors. Discover Spartanburg -
it's a great place to call home
for you or your business!
